S1E21 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 21

Episode 21 of the Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

Welcome one and all to yet another thrilling and exciting episode of The Iron Man Podcast! Join your hosts "The Real Deal" Simon Prior, The Fallen Angel and Old Man Joey as they chat about wrestling. The old, the new, the good, the bad. It's all up for inspection.

What did this week's episode cover? A lot and not much. It's actually part 2 of our Summerslam special, covering a lot of past and present Summerslam goodness.

  • NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II

The second NXT Takeover event at Brooklyn, and the card was a belter. Not only did we see Shinsuke Nakamura take on Samoa Joe, but the in-ring television debut of the Glorious One, Bobby Roode. It's worth watching for his ring intro alone.

  • WWE Summerslam 2016

We analyse this year's Summerslam, going through each match and dishing out turnbuckle ratings left, right and centre. There was also a bit of news from after the event and that controversial ending.

  • WWE Summerslam 2003

The Fallen Angel runs through Summerslam 03. This event saw another Elimination Chamber match featuring injured Triple H, injured Kevin Nash, and Goldberg.

  • WWE Summerslam 2009

The Real Deal runs through Summerslam 09. The headline match saw World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy take on CM Punk in a TLC match.

And then we ran out of time, funnily enough. It's surprising how quickly the time goes when you're having fun. It didn't stop us spending a bit of extra time looking at the forthcoming WWE PPV's for the rest of 2016. And, that we might watch an episode of Holy Foley for next week.

S1E20 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 20

Episode 20 of the Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

This week's episode is Part 1 of a Summerslam special. So with that in mind, join The Real Deal Simon Prior, The Fallen Angel and Old Man Joey as they discuss the following:

  • News

It's a brief news section this week. Aside from Rhyno running for Republican candidate in Michigan, Broken Matt Hardy, and the Greatest Wrestlers of All Time, courtesy of Sports Illustrated.

  • Raw/Smackdown/NXT review

Ahead of Summerslam-specific content, we quickly run through this week's WWE shows. And the surprising amount of pleasure to be taken from Bobby Roode's new intro music. Glorious Domination, indeed.

  • Summerslam/NXT Brooklyn 2016 preview

We run through the card for both this year's Summerslam event, and NXT Brooklyn 2. We predict winners and where we think the storylines are going to go.

  • Summerslam 1989

Old Man Joey provides a summary of the 1989 PPV. The main event that year was Hulk Hogan & Brutus The Barber Beefcake vs Macho Man Randy Savage and Zeus. Yeah.

  • Summerslam 1990

It's The Real Deal's turn to discuss the 1990 PPV. The main event was The Ultimate Warrior vs Ravishing Rick Rude in a steel cage match. At least it's better than Hogan headlining again.

  • Summerslam 1996

Wrapping up our retro Summerslam reviews, Fallen Angel talks through the 1996 PPV, which saw Shawn Michaels take on Vader in the main event.

  • Fatally Flawed Way - Summerslam Edition

Fallen Angel and Old Man Joey have to pick a winner from Ludvig Borga, Zeus, Marc Mero and everybody's favourite member of The Rockers (ahem), Marty Jannetty.

S1E19 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 19

Episode 19 of the Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

Welcome to the UK wrestling fan's survival guide, a look at professional wrestling across the years. The Real Deal Simon Prior, The Fallen Angel and Old Man Joey are your hosts, and this week they discuss:

  • News - Return of Shelton Benjamin and MVP

Apparently some old favourites are rumoured or due to return to the WWE soon.

  • Ring of Honor/TNA Impact/ Global Force

We briefly talk about some of the rival shows out there, and quickly realise that they're not very good.

  • Overrated or Underrated: Matt Hardy

Spinning off from the TNA Impact chat, is Matt Hardy overrated or underrated?

  • Five Best... Sean Waltman matches

The Fallen Angel looks at Sean Waltman's best matches on the WWE Network.

  • Fatally Flawed Way #2 - Undertaker's Wrestlemania Opponents

This week, the Fatally Flawed Way match asks us to work out who would win in a match between Giant Gonzalez, King Kong Bundy (circa 1995), Mark Henry and Sycho Sid. A classic for the ages.

  • Botch To Broadway - WWF Invasion 2001

When WCW came to the big boy's yard. The Invasion storyline didn't work out as well as it could have done had there been some bigger WCW names involved, but it could also have been much, much worse.

  • Why WCW Sucked: Part 6 - Nitro Girls

Yep. Nuff said. Pandering to the demographic in a way that damaged the brand.

  • Tag Team Turmoil: New Age Outlaws

Bearing in mind The Real Deal used to be a fan of Billy Gunn (the man in search of a gimmick that would stick), this doesn't turn out how you might expect.

S1E18 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 18

Episode 18 of the Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

Episode 18 of the Iron Man Show podcast, the UK wrestling fan's survival guide. On this week's show, The Real Deal Simon Prior, The Fallen Angel and Old Man Joey get stuck into the following:

  • News

In the news this week:

Jake The Snake Roberts Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt having a face-off on social media Sin Cara and Simon Gotch's backstage spat the marriage of Lana and Rusev (MACHKA!).

  • WWE Battleground 2016 review

The bulk of this week's episode was spent discussing Battleground. Despite our thoughts last week, it wasn't that bad at all. Funny how things work out. This was the last time that a lot of these wrestlers would appear on the same card, clearing the decks for the brand split editions of Raw and Smackdown.

  • First episodes of "New Era" Raw and Smackdown

Spinning off from the Battleground review, we watched the first new episodes of Raw and Smackdown following the brand split. It's being billed as a new era. But is it though? Well, it's a positive start, let's put it that way. Raw more than Smackdown, definitely.

  • Five Best... Rick Martel Matches

Old Man Joey's task was to find five decent Rick Martel matches. Did he succeed? Tune in to find out.

And that was it, because we ran out of time.

S1E17 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 17

Episode 17 of the Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

Welcome again to the Iron Man Show podcast, the UK wrestling fan's survival guide hosted by The Real Deal Simon Prior, The Fallen Angel and Old Man Joey. On this week's show:

  • News

In this week's news, we looked at the latest legal scandals to be aimed at WWE, namely that of Brock Lesnar and the group of former wrestlers claiming costs for possible brain damage. Yeah, good luck with that.

  • Draft Picks

We went back over our fantasy draft picks from last week and saw how close we were to reality. The answer is: not much.

  • Fatally Flawed Way

The Real Deal has a new feature this week: four wrestlers who you wouldn't want to see in a match... who would win? This week: David Otunga, Shawn "Meat" Stasiak, Heidenreich and Snitsky duke it out in our fantasy battle.

  • Battleground Card Predictions

Sometimes our release schedule does us no favours. Recorded ahead of this weekend's Battleground PPV, we discuss our predictions for the card and whether or not we're looking forward to it.

  • Cruiserweight Classic Episodes 1 & 2

A quick discussion on the first two episodes of the inaugural Cruiserweight Classic. It's looking good so far.

  • Main Event Jobber - Hulk Hogan vs Shawn Michaels, Summerslam 2005

We revisit the main event from Summerslam 2005. It's an interesting one, in that the backstage politics are more interesting than the match itself.

  • Why WCW Sucked - Part 5

The Fallen Angel has an issue with Nick Patrick. The reason? Tune in to find out.

S1E16 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 16

Episode 16 of the Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

"The Real Deal" Simon Prior, The Fallen Angel and Old Man Joey welcome you to the Iron Man Show, a podcast covering the old and new in professional wrestling. This week's episode covers the following topics of conversation:

  • Brand Split

Each of us are given control of Raw, Smackdown and NXT and draft our own personal picks for each show. Who will end up where? And will John Cena get picked?

  • Five Best... David Otunga Matches

The Real Deal is tasked with finding five decent David Otunga matches. Does he succeed? Well, no.

  • Why WCW Sucked - Part 4

The Fallen Angel continues his series of reasons for why WCW sucked. This week: How Ric Flair was used by the company.

  • Main Event Jobber - Kurt Angle vs Mark Henry, Royal Rumble 2006

This was a brief main event, and it happened after the Rumble match itself, for what will be obvious reasons once you've seen it. But was the match itself any good? If it was, we wouldn't be looking at  it in Main Event Jobber.

  • WWE Network Collections - Dusty Rhodes

The Real Deal has started watching the collections available on the WWE Network. He started with The American Dream Dusty Rhodes.

  • Is the WWE Network oversaturated?

There's arguments to both sides. Is it though? We discuss.

  • Bring Back The Brother

The Fallen Angel wants WWE to bring back Hulk Hogan, in some capacity. Should they?

  • The Final Deletion

We're a bit late on this but we ran out of time last week. We turn our eye to the Final Deletion storyline from TNA. Yes, TNA. Is it genius or madness?

S1E15 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 15

Episode 15 of the Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

Welcome to The Iron Man podcast. This week sees the return of Old Man Joey and the team gets back to business with the following topics of conversation:

  • News

We discuss Brock Lesnar's opponent at Summerslam, and it's not John Cena or The Miz. It's also been 20 years since the nWo formed. Yay. There's also some news about WWE wrestler Paige's family bringing wrestling back to British TV. Who'da thunk it?

  • Botch To Broadway - Survivor Series 1990

We take a look at the 1990 Survivor Series, which featured two debuting performers. One of them went on to have an almost unbeatable winning streak at Wrestlemania. The other was the Gobbledy Gooker.

  • Overrated or Underrated - Christian Cage

Ignoring the fact the Real Deal had no idea about Christian's TNA alter ego, we discuss whether the other half of Edge and Christian is overrated or underrated. You can probably already guess what we think.

  • Cruiserweight Classic: Bracketology

The first episode of the Cruiserweight Classic has gone up on the WWE Network and gives us an insight into a few of the performers who will take part. Mixing up a few old favourites with new faces, this promises to be an entertaining tournament.

  • Top 5 Diesel Matches

It's The Fallen Angel's turn to pick out a particular wrestler's top 5 performances, and this week he trawls through Diesel's matches.

S1E14 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 14

Episode 14 of the Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

As the search for Old Man Joey takes us to a funeral parlour and a journey on the Lex Express, The Real Deal and The Fallen Angel spend an hour discussing the following topics:

Main Event Jobber - Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior (Halloween Havoc 1998)

Is this the worst match in wrestling history? Yes, quite possibly.

The Four Ages of Raw

We run through four separate eras of Raw, from 1993, 1998, 2004 and 2013. We look at the development of the show, its progression through the years, the predictability of the storylines and presentation,

WWE 24: Seth Rollins: Redesign. Rebuild. Reclaim

We don't spend long on this subject, but for what it's worth this is one of the best WWE 24 shows that have been released on the Network. Well worth checking out. It also proves that Seth Rollins is as dedicated to the business as anybody could be.

Overrated or Underrated - John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL)

Is JBL a pinnacle of the profession, or is he somebody who reached the top through luck and perseverance? We provide our opinion.

Tag Team Turmoil - Powers of Pain (Warlord and Barbarian)

Can you pick one wrestler out of Warlord and the Barbarian as being the better of the two? The Real Deal certainly can't. But we ask the question: which one of them is the Marty Jannetty of the Powers of Pain?

Favourite Pro Wrestling Theme Song

This one was always going to go one way, but we throw in a few other favourites for good measure.

S1E13 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 13

Episode 13 of The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

As the search for Old Man Joey continues, The Real Deal and The Fallen Angel go back to the standard show format. This week we discussed the following:

News

It's been a busy time for wrestler suspensions. Aside from the big news of Roman Reigns being suspended for 30 days to a Wellness Policy violation, it also turns out that Jerry The King Lawler has been suspended. We also discuss in brief the Cruiserweight Classic which kicks off on the WWE Network in July.

Money In The Bank 2016

We review this month's Money In The Bank PPV. Was it a solid event? Were there any surprises? Did

Overrated or Underrated - Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler clearly has talent, but is he overrated or underrated? A quick look back at some of his recent feuds tells you all you need to know.

Why WCW Sucks Part 3

This week it's the vast array of gimmick matches that WCW felt was necessary. From World War 3 to Tower of Doom matches to everything in between, the sheer volume of them was staggering. Were any of them good ideas? Not really, no.

Botch To Broadway - In Your House 2

Finally we wrap up with a rundown of the second In Your House event from 1995. After the travesty of that year's King of the Ring event, did IYH2 do enough to entertain us from start to finish? If nothing else, at least we could agree that the theme song was pretty good.

S1E12 - The Iron Man Wrestling Podcast - Episode 12

Episode 12 of the Iron Man Wrestling Podcast.

Old Man Joey is still missing! After our slightly rambling intro discussing his absence, we get into the real meat of this week's episode. We're doing another audio commentary on a match from earlier in 2016 - the Hell in a Cell match from Wrestlemania 32 between Shane McMahon and The Undertaker.

Was Shane right to take the leap from the top of the cell? Was the match a good one? Did it go on too long? Did it tell a good story? Is The Undertaker capable, physically and/or mentally, of competing at this level for much longer? All this and more are covered in our commentary track.

Meanwhile, we can only hope that the riddle of Old Man Joey's presence will be solved soon. Was it the Iron Sheik who stole him away? And what links Brutus The Barber Beefcake to his disappearance? Or is this just a red herring? All shall be revealed in time.
